Hinter Sirup - Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur steht ein Netzwerk von Künstler:innen, Kurator:innen, Kulturschaffenden und Coder:innen der Linzer Kunst- und Kulturszene, die mit August 2023 ihre Zelte im ehemaligen Tanzcafé Grand Filou auf der Urfahraner Hauptstraße aufschlagen und in der neuen Basis ein breit gefächertes kulturelles Programm entwickeln.

Sirup hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, einen Beitrag zum kulturellen Treiben im Stadtteil Urfahr zu leisten und sich aktiv an Prozessen der Stadtteil-Belebung zu beteiligen. Sirup bespielt vier Ausstellungsräume zwischen 7 und 15m² und einen großen Raum mit 55m² als Ausstellungs- und Ex­perimen­tier­fläche für Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen, Club-Program­me und Performances.

Die bauliche Struktur des Raumes und die Überbleibsel der früheren Veranstaltungslokale werden in die Kulturarbeit mit einbezogen: durch Open Calls wird Sirup ortsspezifische Installationen ausschreiben, die aufdie Bespielung der bestehenden Design-elemente, zu denen alte Leuchtkästen, Dioramen und Spiegel zählen, abzielen. So soll die Substanz und Geschichte der Räume beibehalten und neu gedacht werden &umdash; die Spaces von Sirup sind keine klassischen White Cubes, ermöglichen aber dadurch künstlerische und kreative Konzeption außerhalb klassischer Ausstellungs-umgebungen.

Behind Sirup - Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur is a network of artists, curators, cultural workers and coders from the Linz art and culture scene who will be setting up camp in the former Grand Filou dance café on Urfahr's Hauptstraße and develop a wide ranging cultural program in their new base.

Sirup wants to contribute to the cultural life of the Urfahr district and actively participate in processes of district vitalization. Sirup provides four exhibition rooms between 7 and 15 m2 and a large room of 55 m2 as an exhibition and experimental space for solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, club programs and performances.

The architectural structure of the space and the remnants of the former event venues will be incorporated into the cultural work: Sirup will issue open calls for site specific installations, which aim to use the existing design elements, including old light boxes, dioramas and mirrors. In this way, the substance and history of the spaces are to be retained and rethought — Sirup's spaces are not classic white cubes, but they do enable artistic and creative conception outside classic exhibition en­vironments.
